Intensive English Program
The Intensive English Program at Northern Kentucky University offers a full time course of study to develop students’ skills and confidence in English and to prepare them to live, study or work in an English language environment. Students enjoy many opportunities to interact with Americans in daily life in the residence halls, in student organizations, and on campus.
The courses integrate skills and use authentic material to improve reading writing, speaking, and listening. Each student takes core courses and individualized or elective coursework which will be a minimum of 25 hours of coursework per week. Class work develops speaking and listening fluency, vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, and intelligibility.
The small class sizes allow for flexibility and individualization to respond to student interest and particular needs. In addition to class work, students have access to a multimedia language laboratory and tutoring at no extra charge. Students receive a certificate upon successful completion of each session.
Each week, students will participate in an activity to enjoy the cultural resources in the area. Field trips have included visiting a local TV station, touring a castle, and exploring an arboretum.
