How Do I Apply?

U.S. Citizens wishing to study in the Intensive English Program or the Semi- Intensive English Program* who do not wish to study on a student visa should complete the following:

  1. Application fee* of $150.00 (USD) payable to NKU by check, money order, Visa, or MasterCard.
  2. Application to American English Language Program 

Students who will be studying on a student visa (F-1) should complete the following:

  1. Application to American English Language Program
  2. Original or certified scanned copy of a current bank statement translated into English showing sufficient funds to support your education in the U.S. and the Declaration of Finances Certificate
  3. Application fee* of $150.00 (USD) payable to NKU by check, money order, Visa, or MasterCard.**

* Students studying on a student visa (F-1, J-1) are not eligible to study in the Semi- Intensive English Program because they must be studying full time.

Students interested in conditional admission to an undergraduate degree program at Northern Kentucky University should complete the following:    

  1. Application for international undergraduate admissions * Apply for the semester you would like to begin studying in the Intensive English Program not for the semester you plan to begin your degree seeking program.
  2. Application fee of $25 (USD). It is recommended to pay this application online.
  3. Mail the following information to the Office of International Students and Scholars:
  •  A complete and official record of studies in every institution of higher learning attended beyond secondary school
  • A complete and official record of all secondary schools previously attended, signed by an authorized official of the school, including dates of attendance, subjects studied, and grades. A certified copy will be acceptable
  •  Evidence of sufficient financial resources.  For family supported students (or students able to support themselves): an original or certified scanned copy of a current bank statement translated into English showing sufficient funds to support your education in the U.S.  For government or agency sponsored students: an original letter from the sponsor stating the amount and duration of the financial guarantee and designating NKU as the institution of study.
* Students who are conditionally admitted to a degree seeking program will be issued immigration documents that allow for adequate time to complete the Intensive English Program and their degree seeking program.

* It may be possible to be conditionally admitted to a graduate program pending completion of the Intensive English Program. This is determined by the graduate program director on an individual basis. If you would like to be considered for conditional admission to a graduate program please send an e-mail to aelp@nku.edu.
